Transition Program
The Montana School for the Deaf and Blind offers a Transition Program for all high school students enrolled. The purpose of the program is to better prepare our students for the every day world and real life. Within the Transition Program, students are exposed to a curriculum that introduces them to daily living skills and concepts. The curriculum takes them through a series of levels, and focuses on a vast array of concepts. After a curriculum introduction, the student is exposed to some physical experiences on campus in a controlled work environment. During this phase of the program the focus is on work experience, and students are taught work ethic. The goal is to prepare the student for a move to off-campus employment. Students may explore off-campus opportunities through field trips, job shadowing and career exploration. They complete various interest inventories and discuss job interests with the Transition staff. Placement in an off-campus job is the final phase of the program.
The Transition Program, working in conjunction with adult services, also assists students in college and career choices to help them be better prepared to enter the adult world.
